Product Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great cut on a tough property. I purchased this 46" cut mower in April to try and restore the yard neglected by a former renter. I was attracted by the 22 hp Kohler twin, the oversize deck discharge opening, and the beefier high-lift blades. From past experience when I lived at the property, 18-20 hp is a minimum due to typical southern thick, wet, spring growth, and several steep hills that require maintenance (up and down - not across). Previous brand decks would frequently clog at the discharge and leave a cut that was at best "ragged", usually requiring running over multiple times, even 'tho I kept a sharp set of blades on the deck.. Even with dry grass, often the cut was less than smooth and would vary with the type of grass/seed stems. The grass/weeds averaged about 12"-18" high the first time I used the mower, and although it would cut great at a lower setting on a test area, I opted to make the first cut at maximum height for several reasons: First - although the area to be cut had been walked over and trash, toys, debris (remember - this was a rental house) were picked up, I was still cautious. Secondly, due to the height of the grass (maybe I should use "vegetation"), too low a cut might risk killing what grass was mixed in with the weeds. Besides, it would give me a second chance to walk the area, and could cut it a little closer the next few weeks. The mower handled the task almost without effort, although in the thickest of areas it was sometimes necessary to slow to a crawl. My previous mower was only a 42" cut, but a higher-end brand, and it never came close to giving the cut that this Cub Cadet does. The reverse pedal took some getting used to, especially if you want to cut in reverse, and when the grass thins out, would be nice if the cruise control could be set to cut a little faster. Engine starts flawlessly, (perhaps a bit loud, but it's 22 hp so I get used to it), detent on throttle sets optimal engine speed. Steering is responsive, has a better "feel" than others I have operated - but might be due to larger engine's weight. Nearing 18 hours, had 10 hour servicing (grease fittings), No real complaints, Totally satisfied. If I were going to live here instead of selling property, I'd invest in a few of the options such as maybe utility trailer. Oh - first few times it was used, and with real heavy grass, it sucked down 3 gallons of gas like no tomorrow (like maybe an hour or so). Now that it's mostly "maintenance mode", I can mow for about 3 hours and use less than 2 1/2 gallons.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty good Runs great, cuts great, plenty of power, the only complaint I have is that after less than 3 hours 2 of tge anti scalp deck broke off, less than 6 hours a 3rd one is gone. My yard is kind of rough but I have never lost a deck on a tractir before. Also, I have less than 10 hours on it now and the deck belt has broke. I bought the tractor on sale, I am about to go spend the $100 I saved on a new belt and 3 new deck wheels....

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great features i bought my tractor in early May . i love it. nice even cut every time , only one problem however. the power wash feature does not work. I have followed the owners book instructions and still have grass coated all around the mowing deck.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Even Cut Bought this two months ago. It produce a great even cut even with my bumpy lawn. I like the foot pedals to move forward and reverse with shifting and the option to do this when the blades are on. Although I didn't realize I had this option until I had mowed a few times. I like the digital display that provides run hours, reminders, and warnings. The tractor has a good feel to it and doesn't feel like it's going to fall to pieces after a few uses.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Good when it works...more/less Have had the unit for just over a year. From the beginning we have had issues with the starter not working properly. Tractor Supply refused to address issue because we didn't have our receipt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Lawn Tractor This is a great machine. I have had it about a month and it has performed better than expected. It has plenty of power and cuts like a charm. The only thing I would chang is the seat. Mowing on hills is difficult and you have to hold on to the fender so you don't slide off. But all in all it is a good tractor.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to Use Have about 10 hours on this tractor and have found it easy to use. With the mow in reverse availability that even makes it easier. Removal of the deck for service is easy and although you can do it without tools, a pair of needle nose pliers makes it a little easier. There is a great video on U-Tube showing how to remove the deck. Purchased a mulching kit and found removing the blades takes a bit of leverage to remove the nuts holding them on. One complaint is the mulching shield that blocks the discharge opening is not engineered very well. Installs quickly but it is made of plastic and does not stay behind the raised lip as it was designed. Grass pushing against it causes it to push out from the lip. One other complaint is the deck washing system gets just about as much water on top of the deck as it does under the deck. The quick disconnect does not seal well to the connection on the deck. Makes quite a mess.
