Rated 5 out of 5 by from Durable and Dependable I owned this for 3 years before running into problems. It is my first rider and still runs. My problem came when I started towing a heavy wagon behind it. Don't make that mistake. A couple of cotter pins snapped but were relatively easy to replace underneath. Upside is a nice even cut, time after time, little maintenance but worth the time to do the maintenance. Downside for me was that when I resodded my St. Augustine lawn this mower, coupled with my additional weight became too heavy for the new, plusher lawn, especially when I added the rear bagger onto it. 5 stars overall because of the mowing effort it saved me for 4 years. I use it now to mow the far back end of my lawn which never got resodded. Still saves me a lot of time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really Impressed Wow am I glad I chose the Cub over its competitors! This machine is really really a smart buy. I sold my 20 year old Cub Cadet earlier this year and took my sweet time in deciding its replacment. I kept coming back to the Cub: 1) Performance - the 18 horse Kohler is a beast. No power drop when the blades are engaged --- impressive 2) Styling - best looking garden tractor out there. Even has LED headlights! Also while this isn't a zero turn you will be amazed at its new tight turning radius -- perfect! 3) Reliability - my last Cub lasted me 20 years and still had plenty left -- kept its value as well. 4) Heritage -- again Cub Cadet has been doing tractors for a long long time. 5) Value. This is the best part as it is actually priced at or below the competition. Fact is for $1499 there isn't anybody that can come close to this tractor. Do yourself a favor and get yourself a Cub --- kinda makes you want to mow more often!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So Far So Good Purchased the X1 about a month ago. Surprised at the power of the mower and how smoothly it mows and turns. Seat fits me great, love the monitor to let me know when things need to be done. Only concern is that I think my battery is reading low allready, but will contact dealer and see if that can be rectified as I have not had the mower for that long and do not think battery should be reading low allready. Overall very satisfied, makes mowing a breeze.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Proud Owner of a Cub Cadet We recently purchased property on a lake. I have never owned or really had the need for a riding mower. We did our research and decided on the Cub Cadet. We purchased form a small local dealer and couldn't be more happier with the service and performance. Its one of those purchases in life worth doing right "you get what you pay for" Cub Cadet owner for life !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Rider Ever!! Started looking for a new lawn mower in December of 2014 after my 11 year old craftsman's engine died. I have done a lot of research and read many reviews of different brands available. i went to the JD dealer and test drove the new s240 and the Cud dealer and drove a xt2 which has a better ride than the JD had. That is when i decided to get the Cub Cadet. Either the 42" 18HP or the 46" 22HP. I went with the 42" 18HP and i am glad it did. Has way more power than my old mower and cuts through my thick grass like butter. The lawn has never looked this good. I have 8 Hrs on this now and it has started right up every time, the ride and turning radious are amazing. The seat is awesome, have not had an issue with my back like i did before. Thanks Cub Cadet for making a great product!! The bonus is the warranty that you get with this mower.. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a new riding lawn mower!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome Ride I do enjoy the ride my Cub Cadet has and the steering is great, only draw back is it is a lot louder than my other rider I had for 20 years, and the manual that came with it was a old one. I do like how you can hook up a hose to clean under the deck after cutting the grass.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super Buy Replaced mower of 17 plus years and the comfort and cut on this mower is amazing! With all the rain my grass has been higher than normal to cut and it plows through it and cannot even tell it was higher than normal. The comfort driving and riding is my key to buying it, I shopped around and kept going back to this one, SO GLAD, best purchase ever! I only wish the 42" had the bluetooth, but still great to moniter the hours and will alert you if any issues (low oil, low battery), You wont regret going Cub Cadet

Rated 5 out of 5 by from easy to operate! Glad I bought this, easy to operate. My wife and oldest Daughter love running the mower. It's a pleasure sitting on my deck with a cold drink watching them have so much fun.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent choice After 2 months of use I cannot find anything to not be happy about. This is my 5th rider (2nd Cub) and it was the perfect match for our 1/2 acre mostly flat yard. We have had an unusually wet spring and at times the grass got really tall but even with the mulching kit this machine had no problem making the yard look great. It is easy to drive, takes little effort to steer, and has plenty of power. I am very happy with this purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great mower I got the mower for Christmas from my wife. I live the tractor, how it handles, the way it looks. The seat is comfortable, which may not sound like much, but I have a bad back and riding around doesn’t hurt me. If your in the market this is the one I recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smooth, smooth, smooth Owned for a month now. Love the hydrostatic drive and turning radius. Louder than I expected. I have the XT1 LT46 with the 2-cylinder Kohler and it's noticably quieter. All things considered, I'm very happy with the tractor so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Has what we were looking for We haven't had our Cub Cadet for that long and only got a few mowings in before the weather turned cold and rainly, but the few times that we have used it, we have been very happy with the results. We we using a 20 year old mower before we finally broke down and bought a new one. The new features that are available are amazing. We are very thankful that we chose Cub Cadet and looking forward to a full season of mowing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Top Quality Went looking for a tractor in the $1200-1300 range. When I looked at the Cub Cadet and its' features, it was a no-brainer to spend the extra $200! Runs beautifully and gives a very neat cut. Steers like it has power steering. Highly recommend

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This tractor is amazing i have always owned garden tractors but never a Cub Cadet! I have owned Honda, Agco Allis and John Deere but until now never found one that exceeds my expectations! The steering and the cut by far out weighs the competition! I'm very pleased with the tractor to date and would suggest that you take one for a test drive before you consider any other unit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love my new Cub Cadet I am a 76 year-old woman who appreciates the comfortable seat, the short turn ratio, the ease in steering AND the cute yellow color! My former lawnmower, unlike my new Cub Cadet, was slow and had an uneven mowing deck...I also like the speed of the mower. I have cut my mowing time almost in half. The only negative thing I can say is the mower is too loud. I always wear ear plugs, however, so this is not a real problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Saves me lots of time I recently purchased the LT42 model and happy to report it has saved me hours of grass cutting and as a bonus is fun to use. It's built way beyond my expectations. It's solidly made yet the ride is comfortable. The high back rest on the seat makes it easy on the back, steering is spot on and it starts easily. I would definitely recommend buying and using the LT42 for those of you considering a lawn tractor. Oh yes, the price of this tractor isn't too bad either. I love using it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great mower This is my 2nd cub cadet. Sold the first one since it would not fit in my shed. This one is perfect for what I need. Even though it is smaller than my old 54" deck is cuts my half acre fast! Looks like easy maintance also. Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Decision Going from an old wheel horse with a 20 hp briggs, to this XT1 42 with the 18hp kohler engine was a breeze. The engine performs great, the cut is even, and transmission is great. After reviewing models I was torn between this and the John deere at home depot. At the same cost, the cub cadet is a solid machine with beefy parts and a better transmission. The deere uses a cvt vs the hydro-static on the cadet. As for mowing, I can now cut my grass at full speed and still get an even cut.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This isn't my father's Cub Cadet, it's mine! My father probably owned about half a dozen or more garden tractors over the span of his life. In his later years he owned his one and only Cub Cadet and I can honestly say that it was one of his favorites. He was good with his hands and mechanically inclined so he performed maintenance and repairs on all his motor driven tools and toys. His Cub Cadet was one of the most trouble free of the lot which is why I was able to narrow down which tractors were even worth considering when his last one gave up the ghost... it was not a Cub Cadet. The field was quickly reduced to two tractors, the Cub Cadet XT1 LT42 and one built by a competitor. Dollar for dollar both machines were for all intents and purposes, equals, however what pushed the Cub forward in my thinking was a feature that wasn't available on the competitor's unit, specifically, cruise control. The lot I mow is just over an acre with lots of trees and shrubs but there are spans where not having to hold down an accelerator pedal is appreciated. A secondary selling point in addition to cruise control which helped me choose Cub Cadet is its '3-year unlimited hours (includes powertrain) & 5-year chassis & front axle unlimited hours warranty' which is superior to its competition. The deck of this mower is slightly shorter than the one it replaced, 42" as compared to 48" but the ride is comfortable, especially with its adjustable seat, so having to go a few more laps is no big deal. If you've operated a tractor where the deck extends well beyond its wheels you've probably nicked a tree or some other object along the way however with the XT1 LT42 the left side of its deck finishes almost flush with the outside edge of its left front wheel, a safety bonus I didn't initially see. While the XT1 is very nimble it is also louder than anticipated. I attribute this to its vented hood design. Maybe the vents are a trade-off which help the motor run cooler and extend its life. Ear muffs bring motor noise down to a level which permits me to comfortably listen to my MP3 player as I mow. One suggestion I have for Cub Cadet would be to edit XT1 LT42's user documents to include specific instructions for changing XT1's break-in oil at the 5 hour run time mark. While oil changes are part of the maintenance chart, neither the separate Kohler Owner's Manual for the motor nor the Cub Cadet Operator's Manual indicate that the first oil change is a one quart job. The manner in which the manuals are written make it easy to add more oil to the motor than is required and if you don't pay attention you can set the engine up for failure early on. To anyone considering purchase of an XT1 LT42, take time to check little things like tire pressure, etc. It appears the unit's tires are inflated well above the recommended PSI clearly marked on tire sidewalls, presumably to give the tractor a little more stability and bounce as it were during shipping. Overinflated tires wear out faster and tend to dig into turf, especially during turns. I am very happy with the fit, finish and performance of my XT1 LT42 Cub Cadet and with how well it mows, yielding a well groomed lawn. Its controls are sensibly arranged, easy to understand and operate. Dad would agree.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Tough lil' guy! I've been pleasantly surprised by the willpower of this little guy. I purchased a home on 20 acres (mostly woodland) which has been largely overgrown (since the property sat vacant for three years.) I've been using this little beast to beat-back Mother Nature, and reclaim/tame the land. This little sucker has been acting like a mini-brush-hog for me -- cutting down endless saplings. I'm mowing through wet/marshy areas, and TALL/THICK grasses and reeds. In about a month of harsh use, it has only bogged-down once or twice due to HEAVY/THICK conditions. Most of the time, however, whatever your can run over will get sliced & diced and tossed out the side. Overall, I'm VERY PLEASED (even impressed) by this lil' riding mower. It has the heart of a much bigger mower! I grew up on commercial zero-turn riding mowers back in the day (Yazoo and Howard mowers, with 72" cutting decks, etc.) So, the change to a sit-on-top riding mower is taking some time to adjust to. Before you read the feedback below, FIRST realize that I'm LOVING, LOVING, LOVING this mower!!! But, nothing is perfect... General issues/feedback: 1.) This lil' guy does slip when things are wet, and gets stuck. With all the safety shut-off precautions, there's no way to get off and PUSH the mower (while it's still in-gear and helping itself.) So, you either need to have someone ELSE help push you. Or, drag it out with another vehicle. I understand that the larger models DO have a differential-lock system. (I'm envious...) I also noticed that Cub Cadet offers a weight-kit for this mower (which might help?) I might also consider switching to a more-aggressive tire/tread, too? (or chains?) 2.) The automatic safety shut-off on the seat is a bit too much "nanny protection" for me. Example: As I was approaching high/thick grasses in an unfamiliar area, I tried to stand-up to see over the hood (to see if I was going to hit anything unwanted?) But, when I stood-up, the mower automatically shut-off. I think this safety switch is a GREAT idea. But, much like the button to allow/disallow blades/mowing while backing-up, I wish there was something similar to (temporarily) override or shut-off the seat safety switch. Maybe a foot button on the deck that you can step-on to transfer the feature to the foot switch? e.g. if you foot comes off the switch, then the mower shuts-off? That way, you can still have an automatic shut-off in case the rider is tossed-off the mower? 3.) I'm not accustomed to "taking a beating" when I mow. With the front-deck zero-turn mowers, you can run the mower deck under trees and such -- without going under the trees, yourself. Ditto with "hanging" the mower deck over ditches and such (while the drive wheels are still on safe/level ground.) With these sit-on-top riding mowers, YOU are pretty much going wherever the blades go. If the blades need to go under a tree, YOU will be riding under those same low-hanging tree limbs. This isn't really a knock-against this SPECIFIC mower. I simply contemplated a zero-turn vs a ride-on-top, and wanted to make newbies aware of the issues/risks. 2b.) Item 3, also takes me back to item #2 (seat safety switch.) I used to do my fair share of yoga poses on our old riding mower. e.g. hang off one side of the mower (like hanging over the side of a catamarn sailboat.) I did this to shift/apply weight to the wheels for traction, and/or to avoid going under trees, etc. This mower won't allow you to "hang out" or lean over the side. Your butt has to remain in the seat at all times. 4.) SO MANY safety shut-off systems. You almost need a pre-flight safety checklist to start this thing. Mower deck has to be disengaged. Brake pedal has to be depressed. Butt has to be in the seat. Transmission in neutral position. Lord help you if you also forgot to press/reengage the L-shaped key back into position before mounting your mower. (e.g. when you get off to re-engage it, the mower will die.) Oh, and that reverse mowing setting, too!!! (That one catches me a LOT!) You find yourself wondering why you can't mow? The mower keeps dying? OOPS!!! I forgot to either disengage the mower deck, or turn the key and press the button to allow reverse-mowing. I'm SLOWLY getting used to the nanny-mower world. Safety First (as they say.) But, I can't tell you how many times I've had to scratch my head, and stare at the thing, and WONDER -- "What am I forgetting? Why won't this thing start THIS time?" 5.) NEED MORE HOOK-UP OPTIONS!!! In this day and age, I can hardly imagine ANYTHING not having some sort of receiver hitch that's welded/bolted to the frame. The little "lip" (with a hole) on this thing is barely sufficient for a cart/wagon. Hey Cub Cadet: People use these things for MORE than just mowing grass! We move boats and airplanes around. We need to move dirt and mulch around. Many of us already have a variety of trailers that we need to simply move around the property. Our lil riders need to have the ability to function as a "tow tug" -- to shuffle trailers around. We also need the ability to drag some Class-Zero hitch gear, too! You should also offer additional lighting bolt-on options (backup lights, light bars for the front of the mower, etc.) Oh, and a bolt-on toolbox. The little drink caddy and cell phone cup thing just invite things to bounce-off into the yard (and get mowed-over.) We need a bold-on (optional) toolbox (with a latching lid) behind the seat. That way, we can put pruning sheers in there, a set of gloves, safety glasses/goggles, sunblock, bug spray, sunglasses, hearing protection/muffs, tow strap, trailer balls & wrench, etc. It would also be nice if there was some way to mount a receiver hitch to the front of the mower? (e.g. so we can hook-up a receiver-mounted ATV winch?) Heck, even the "option" to install some sort of stereo in the dash would also be nice?!!! I look forward to "modding" my new mower. But, I wish there were more "universal" bolt-on options, instead. Again, I'm VERY, VERY, VERY happy with the mower. It's working BETTER than expected, and I have even MORE plans/upgrades planned for it! As a sit-on-top, I kinda just want it to be like a mini-tractor, instead of "JUST" a riding mower?...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Highly Recomend I have owned my Cub Cadet for just over a year now and have put over 100 hours on it. We have just under an acre with some hills and trees. My rider does a superb job every time! The turning radius is what has surprised me the most. With the addition of our tilt trailer no job has been too big or small. From pulling loads of soil, mulch, and even boulders. My Cub Cadet has gotten the job done!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Online Reviews Were Spot On I recently purchased this mower after looking at and reading many top name brand mower reviews. I sat in, and drove most of them, and this was my top pick due to the comfort of the ride, engine brand/quality, and the small well thought out features. The Kohler engine is by far one of the best options for a small engine now days, so that was a no-brainer! Oil filter placement, and flexible oil change hose, makes changing the oil a breeze. Gas tank and cap location is easy to get to. Seat adjust-ability makes it easy for my teenager to reach the pedals. The innovative deck flush system that will allow an everyday host quick connect to attach is a wonderful idea. I would definitely buy the newly redesigned 2015 Cub again without hesitation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great mower, great customer service I have to admit this was not my first choice, I originally brought home a different mower that was slightly cheaper. It had an "automatic" transmission which was horrible. It jerked when starting out, and jerked to a halt. Thinking it was something I could adjust, I contacted the factory but received a very canned response to call an 800 number to find where to bring it for service. I returned it and picked this one up. What a difference! This one has a lot of features the other one lacked, a sunglass holder, an hour meter, a padded steering wheel instead of hard plastic, and a very comfortable and easy to adjust seat. It has a true hydrostatic transmission which is very smooth. It also climbs hills better than the other one. It is not without fault though, there is a tear in one of the handle covers and a blemish on the hood, both probably happened during shipping. I contacted the factory, and was promptly shipped a new handle cover and a new hood! 5 stars for a great mower and excellent customer service!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from XT1 Great Tractor Anyone looking to purchase a new Lawn Tractor this is the one to buy, with the twin Cam 18hp Kohler Engine she is ready to go, even when mowing on a slope mine doesn't bog down a bit, and this compared to my old Craftsman LT-1000 this mower beats it hands down, the controls are easy to use and I love the cut while backing up feature, the only thing's it could use is to have Cub Cadet use a seal on the headlamps mine are constantly getting water behind the lens , and they are not easy to remove to clean, also I would like to see a gauge for the charging system like my Craftsman had, other than that this is a great mower built to last, and well worth the investment, the Hydrostatic transmission is a breeze to use , and the mower only goes as fast as you press on the accelerator, like your car and it works like a brake when letting off of it, I would Highly recommend this mower for those who want reliability with cutting edge performance and Looks , also this mower does a great job at lifting the grass while cutting much better than my old craftsman and it seems to cut wider than my old one even though they both have a 42inch cutting surface

This tractor is perfect in everyway. I bought this mower and it is VERY easy to ensemble and it starts up faster then you can say Cub Cadet. This is the best mower I have had so far. Good job Cub

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Mower I have had my XT1-42 mower for almost 2 yrs now. I mow a acre of yard. 18hp Kohler twincam engine runs very well. Mower had over 100 hrs on it. I am old school as far as maintanace. I change my oil every 15 hrs along with filter. Clean oil and new filter is the life of any engine. I use synthetic 10W30 oil in it. The Cut is Great, best cutting and rear bagging I have ever had in a mower. I have 3 sets of blades for it , always keep sharp blades on it for best cut. I only paid $1399 for mower at tractor supply. Always remember, the people who have problems with any equipment, is ones who do not take care of their equipment. Ones that do take care of their equipment are ones that don't have any problems. I would recommend this mower to anyone.
