Rated 4 out of 5 by seximarilyn from High Performance, Premium Quality, Multitasker I have limited experience when it comes to using String Trimmers/Brush Cutters. Therefore, I really appreciated the detailed instruction manual that was included. The manual provided assembly, fueling and starting instructions that were easy to understand, clear and concise and immensely helpful. The equipment was painless to unpack and because of the instruction manual, fairly simple to assemble. Assembling the equipment, took me approximately 15-20 minutes. Fuel is included and thankfully, you don't need to mix any oil and gas in order to run the trimmer. The trimmer looks and feels strong and solid, well built and sturdy, with good blade quality. I was able to start it, without any difficulty, on the first pull. The brush cutter attachment is uncomplicated to connect to the power head and too maneuver. I had no difficulty trimming and shaping the hedges and numerous shrubs around my property. Additionally, I was able to trim and edge my flower beds with precision and I was able to effortlessly reach what I thought might be hard to reach areas. The throttle is quite responsive. I noticed and felt few if any vibrations from the motor, which never clogged up or cut out. However, the motor for the trimmer is on the loud side, which is probably due to it's powerful engine. Therefore, I recommend wearing earplugs when using the trimmer. Additionally, the trimmer over time, did become a bit heavy for me to maneuver and utilize. The included shoulder strap was a blessing which provided needed support and it helped tremendously to take the load off of my arms while still providing a full range of movement. I am impressed with how my property looks after utilizing the string trimmer/brush cutter. This is a high performance, premium quality, easy to use multitasker string trimmer, that I heartily recommend.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Purpie from Handy for the residential home First of all, I’m a total novice when it comes to weed eater machines so putting this together and understanding it were a little over my head. But, even though I’m not experienced, it was easy to put together with the directions. I did it in about 20 minutes so it will probably move much faster for others! Unfortunately, it is a bit heavy and gets a bit tiring after holding it a bit. There is a shoulder strap that does help take off some of the weight, but it is still a large unit and a bit heavy. There is a handle on the shaft that is adjustable so that helps to make it more comfortable and easier to hold onto. I didn’t have trouble getting it started with the pull mechanism so starting it was simple enough. It has 2 attachments but I’ve only used the one with the string. I’m still learning the art of trimming, but that is not a fault of the machine. The string stays in the spool well and there is a protective guard to keep me from trimming myself! I have run it for up to 20 minutes at a time without need to replace fuel or have any hiccups in performance. Pros are that the machine is powerful, can handle small jobs and is equipped to handle heavier ones, is cordless and easy to set up. The biggest downside is the weight and bulk of it so prepare the muscles!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Kirstiamber from Heavy duty! This is a heavy duty product! The Bush trimmer attachment works amazing and cuts through most any type of Bush or brush! The only down fall to this item is it gets very heavy on the hands after using it a few minutes even when wearing the shoulder strap. I have been using this for several months and have not had one problem out of it yet! It's a warrior beast!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Justme0419 from My yard looks amazing I don't have much experience with trimmers, so bear with me if the terms I use aren't proper. The only one previous I've used is an ancient one that gave me so much grief I gave up on it. That being said, let's get down to my experience with the Cub cadet. First things first, I very thoroughly read all the included information. Directions are my friend. Assembly was easy. Took me about 15 minutes, with no prior experience. Once I got it running I noticed the trimmer feels solid, well built and sturdy in your hands. It's comfortable. It does get a little heavy over time, but that's to be expected at 16lbs. Performance wise, I'm blown away. This trimmer handles things I couldnt even fathom with my old one with ease. I was able to get right up along the fence line, around gardening blocks, and tree trunks. The bush trimmer attachment is another really cool feature. I have a ton of bushes and hedges around my property that we're in desperate need of some manicuring. The bush trimmer did a great job at handling them without getting clogged up or quitting on me. One downfall I experienced was the clip that comes on the strap that you use to secure the trimmer to you while in use. It doesn't stay on securely, but that's definitely not a deal breaker for me, especially since it handles everything else around my property like a beast. Another thing worth mentioning is that you should definitely consider wearing ear protection when using the Cub cadet, it is loud! Overall, I give it a solid 4.5 out of 5 stars. It's super powerful, easy to use, even for a beginner, a multitasker, and a necessity for a yard that looks well tended and maintained. I'd recommend it without hesitation.

Rated 1 out of 5 by brad49 from terrible feature bump head string replacement is terrible. would not recommend this product! the string breaks and when take the bump head off the strings goes everywhere. There is no way to secure the string properly. The design is horrible. Definitely a poorer product than my other cub cadet.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Caps_fan0815 from Awful experience I had purchased this weedwacker from a local cub cadet dealer with the hopes I’d own it forever but little did I know I was in for a nightmare. After using it 3-4 times I had noticed oil leaking out the air filter, I returned it and was given another one because it was still under warranty. They told me it was due to a crack in the engine block, they made me aware that they have had this issue with other models and stopped selling them because of it. My second one I’ve used maybe twice this year and had the same issue happened, started leaking oil from the filter again. I sent it back and they gave me an option to either receive another one free of cost or get a full refund via cub cadet to purchase a different weedwacker. This sounds like there’s a design malfunction that needs to be addressed. I would not recommend this product to ANYONE.

Rated 1 out of 5 by DW622 from Terrible initial quality I bought 3 Cub Cadet products to "Buy America", but 2 of them failed right out of the box. One was the BC490 trimmer. The gas line had a pin hole in it and soaked me in gas when I used it. It worked for about 4 weeks and now will not stay running. This is used in a residential setting, not commercial. By the way, the other product that failed was their walk behind tiller. It would not go into gear. Had to have the entire unit replaced. POOR QUALITY.
