Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love This Mower I bought the Sc500hw about 1 month ago. I absolutely love the way this mower starts so easily but most of all the maneuverability of it. With the front caster wheels it is vary easy to mow around things like a round garden without have the lift the front end of the mower. It mows effortlessly and is really enjoyable to cut the grass. The only thing I don't like is after cutting the grass and returning the mower to the shed, the handle to push it back is a little uncomfortable (Unless you grab the handle that engages the gears to move the mower). Not a big thing though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very pleased After having someone else do my yard work for 10 years and with the charges increasing every year along with a drop in quality decided to do it myself. I'm 70 and still working but the wife and Dr. said I need more exercise so this seems like the time to do it. Spent several days reading reviews of all mowers on manufacturers web sites and the big box sites. Everything I read about the Cub Cadet SC 500 hw mower was absolutely true. The flat parts of my yard have a 10* slope but most of it is 30-45* and this mower powered it's way through even on wet grass. What's not to love: automatic choke (started on second pull and it's any easy pull, speed control is the best design I've ever used and just seems to work naturally, deck wash port works great. I also decided to purchase from my local Cub Cadet dealer and was really impressed. took all of 20 minutes to purchase, assemble and out the door.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Upgraded and loving it. For the last 10 years I've used a mower I bought at a garage sale for $25. It still runs, it still mows, but it’s a pain. The wheels don’t all point in the same direction, the grass bag is tiny, and the motor is loud and weak. It makes me hate mowing. I decided I deserved something better; something newer. After researching the available mowers I chose the SC 500 HW. I even bought it from the Cub Cadet website because they had the best price. It arrived yesterday and I didn’t mow my back yard for 2 weeks anticipating this day. The mower came out of the beat up/destroyed box (thanks UPS…) and was adjusted to operational configuration with ease. It was filled with the supplied “bag” of oil and a splash of gas, and it fired on the first pull. So quiet. So little vibration. Such a big smile. I headed to the backyard to test it on “The Jungle.” With the old mower it would be sputtering through the tall grass and the bag would be filling/clogging. I’d have to run across the same ground a few times and take half-deck cuts so it wouldn’t kill the mower. The Cub blazed through the stalks with ease. The power appears to be endless and the engine noise is surprisingly stifled. There is no… we’re talking NO deflection in the engine RPM in even the most demanding conditions. The grass bag gobbled up the refuse like a black whole gobbles up solar systems. No sputtering, no clogging. My neighbors probably though I was insane because I actually caught myself laughing while I mowed. The old mower with its omnidirectional wheels would require a severe lean and determination by the operator to make the mower move even on a manicured lawn. The Cub leapt at my touch and easily powered through the thick turf. It was light as a feather. Again with the laughter. This thing weighs 90 lbs, yet it moves with the speed and determination of Michael Phelps in the 200M Freestyle at the 2008 Summer Olympics. I have never owned a self-propelled mower and after last night, I will never go back. The speed control mechanism is ingenious. It perfectly adjusts to your individual speed, unlike the “thumb paddles” of some of its competitors. It is ingenious in both its efficiency and simplicity. On the old mower the bag opening was quite small. Only the driest grass would be permitted to pass in much the same way Gandalf rebuked the Balrog at the Bridge of Khazad-dûm. The bag would back up and the deck would spew grass blades from underneath leaving grass clumps laying on the ground requiring yet another pass after the half-full bag was emptied. The old bags empty process was painful and time consuming as well. The Cub’s bag inlet is reminiscent of the Grand Canyon during both the fill and the empty conditions. It seems to go on forever and never clog even in the tallest grass and most demanding conditions. The empty process requires only to tip the mower bag into the trash bag, and a quick shake and it done; back to mowing. I can find no down-side to the mower; it makes mowing very nearly a pleasure. The only problem with the mower was the package delivery. During what would appear to be standard shipping company abuse on today’s packages, the box was abused so badly that the left front wheel is toed in because the axle assembly is bent. The forward-most height adjustment notch is also broken and hanging on by a thread. I’ve submitted a trouble ticket about it and now I will get to experience Cub Cadet’s customer support. If you have an old garage sale mower, stop torturing yourself and get this mower. Good price, good value for the money, good functionality and innovation, good times.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product! Exceeded my expectations! After much researching on a new mower I decided on the cub cadet SC 500 HW and boy am I glad I did. This mower replaced an old mower my father had which was a snapper self propelled that now sells for over $500 new (but anyway I digress). I bought the mower from my local dealer and just like the website said it was $369.99 around $395 after 0.7% sales tax. The mower was already assembled and the dealer took it outside filled it with oil and gas and it started on the first pull. He went on to say he has only had two cub cadets that didn't start first pull in the past three years. So i took it home and later that evening mowed my yard which has been neglected for nearly 3 weeks. I can not say enough good thing about how well the mower pulled. My yard is very STEEP, BUMPY, and UNEVEN but the mower handled it like a dream. The innovative drive system is effortless and effective if you want the mower go faster just walk faster and it will keep up or slow down and it will do the same. Going both vertical and horizontal on my yard was easy and the mowing went faster than ever. I used the side discharging option so i will not speak about the mulching or bag collection options. My yard looked amazing and level and probably the best it ever has. I stopped numerous times and each time the mower started with one pull. I did notice quite a bit of build up on the deck but this is likely because my back yard was probably 6-8 inches and wet so it is to be expected. I did not use the deck washer option because I've always just propped my mower up and scrapped it out. Long story short BUY THIS MOWER if you're in the market for one. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I love this mower, it's light weight and easy to move around. The deck wash system is awesome, great feature. I have had one problem with it since new, it smokes a lot on start up, but I am working with my dealer and after the mowing season is over I am taking it back in for repair.
