Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Home Owner Push Mower I just bought this mower, and overall I am happy with it. I wanted something bigger than the standard 21" or 22" push mowers, and there are not a lot of options out there I found. I was considering the CC 600 with 28" deck, but decided on this one not because of the extra 5" of cutting width, but because It just seemed like a better machine. PROS: 1) Larger rear tires and larger front casters than the smaller 28" CC 600, and other similar competitor mowers. 2) Single lever height adjustment. Much easier than having to adjust each will indecently like most push mowers. 3) Larger 2 gallon gas tank (in contrast with the very tiny gas tank on the CC 600) etc. 4) Electric start (not necessary, but nice to have) 5) 33" cutting deck. 6) Reverse (main benefit for me with this feature is makes it easier to load / unload into a truck bed using ramps) CONS: 1) As others have mentioned, the 2 levers do seem stiff to operate. 2) I do not like that it is not variable speed. This makes it difficult to navigate around objects, or just to slow down a little when needed. Its go or stop. No in between. This causes the front end of the mower to want to pop up and do a wheelie when you start to go forward, and it also makes it real hard to come to a stop when in 4th gear on the way back to the garage, or wherever, as the thing just abruptly stops when you let go of the handle. . 3) 3 1/2" is the highest deck height setting. Which isn't horrible, but I find it odd they wouldn't have designed it to go up to at least 4" (so when you have gone too long in between mowings and your grass is really tall, you may need that taller setting to knock it down). Minor detail, but worth noting 4) It is fairly easy to maneuver around the yard, make turns etc., but it is kind of difficult to manage around objects (trees, lamp posts, swing sets, etc.) Again, this is where the lack of variable speeds comes into play. You are cruising along in 3rd gear, and if you need to make a tight 360 degree circle around an object, you basically need to stop, drop down to 1st or 2nd gear to mow around object, stop again to shift back into 3rd, and continue on. The other option is to just let go of the drive lever and manually man handle it around the object, which works, but does take some effort. Luckily, I do not have that many objects to mow around, but if you have a lot of trees, or water ever, to mow around, I could see this being very tiresome with this mower. Overall however, when compared to the limited # of other options within this price range and cutting deck width, It is a great mower for residential use. it is NOT a commercial mower, and it is not marketed as such. It may have the look of a small commercial type mower, but it does not handle / function as one. It is really more of walk behind push mower on steroids, which for my purposes, that is really all I needed. Something to cut a bigger swath on each pass so I don't have to spend as much time mowing. And it does that just fine. For a homeowner who wants something bigger than the standard push mower, but does not want a rider, or to spend the money on a commercial grade walk behind, this fits the bill pretty nice. My biggest gripe, as already mentioned twice in my CONS section, is the lack of variable speed. It doesn't have to be hydrostatic, but it would just be nice if you had SOME speed control based on how much, or how little, you squeezed the handle. That ONE detail alone would make this a MUCH better mower.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best of both worlds I bought this mower about a month ago and my yard is about an acre. I’ve had lawn tractors since buying this property and wanted a zero turn mower. After realizing a zero turn wasn’t in the budget I went to my local lawn equipment dealer to learn what other options were out there. They introduced me to larger deck walk behind mowers with casters on the front, which allow the mower to behave like a zero turn. One of the models they showed me was the CC800. I’m glad they did. The mow job takes less time than with my old tractor, thanks to the maneuverability and versatility of this machine. Plus, walking behind the mower is good for me. I get some exercise while I effortlessly cut my grass. The engine is super powerful. All of this said, operating the mower takes a little getting used to. The controls are very similar to a snow blower. After reading other reviews that pointed out the potential quality issue with the drive-lever-cable, I checked it as soon as I picked up the mower. I do agree, it looks like a better quality cable could have been used, however we’ll see how long it lasts. I love the cut quality and I enjoy cutting my grass. I have the benefits of a walk behind and a zero turn.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly what I wanted and more!! I was looking for a mower to tackle a very steep hill in my backyard. This hill is difficult to walk up let alone use a mower on it. Let me just say this mower will climb ANY hill you have and pull you right up as well. I weigh 290 lbs and it would drag me up the hill if I wanted it to. I'm serious! Going down the hill is a breeze too because the mower's speed is restricted to the gear it is in. If you put it in first gear down a hill it will go down it at a controlled pace. The mower did not bog down cutting tall grass either. The mower is reasonably quiet to be as big as it is. I like how it has an oil filter and draining the oil looks to be hassle free as well. This mower has a 3 year parts and labor warranty as well. Buy it from a dealer so you will get preferred service treatment on it as well!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from rugged mower I have had this unit for 8 years. One set of new blades and 2 batterys. Lube and oil done by the hour meter. Requires good set up with belt tensioners. Only problem is cables are exposed on back of mower unit. Can be bumped or bent very easy. Otherwise dependable unit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Frustrated at first but great mower. I works extremely well for me, I have a 1 acre lot with many trees and other objects to mow around. With this mower I have little or no weed eating to do afterwards. I was disappointed at first because the mower would only run well for 30 minutes or less at a time and then stall out. I had to take the carburetor apart and found some debris in the bowl near the fuel solenoid valve. Once I did that it has ran without issue. Lots of power and very much a time saver. And I get some exercise while mowing. Ignore the bad reviews if you are looking for a good walk behind mower.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good mower with alot of features. I recently bought this mower to replace a Toro 21 mower. Features like electric start, single control for height adjustment, easy to service, great cut, are highlights. Getting use to controlling it takes practice as turning 180 degrees at various speeds is challenging. If anyone has a video or suggestions i would appreciate it. As one reviewer mentioned, if Cub Cadet could meke this mower with the hydraulic steering and drive control it would absolutely be the best. I had a Pro 336 and with the hydraulic drive, it was the best and easiest to control of any mower I have had. Turning this mower like I mentioned can be a challenge at times and the clutch control is hard to feather. If it could be mounted under the handle, it might be better, or make it an option to have it on top or under the handle.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great mower saves time! I’ve had this mower for a few weeks now and have used it several times. Other reviews list negatives that I experienced, but only the first use. After I got used to operating the mower, wheelies were no more. I also have no problem keeping up fourth gear which is a common complaint. Saves me time mowing and lawn looks great, exactly what I wanted. The one common complaint I saw that I would agree with is the snow blower like handles aren’t super comfortable, my hands hurt after like 5 minutes of mowing before getting settled in for the rest of the job. I suspect this will go away over time, but it is worth noting.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great mower I purchased this mower at the end of last season. I was looking for a mower that had a larger deck but could maneuver the hills and slopes around my house that were not ideal for a lawn tractor. I am very impressed with this mower. It's a sturdy machine with a great cut quality. The only gripe I have and the reason for 4 stars and not 5 is because of the bagger attachment. I used it in the fall when I was mulching up leaves. The bag is small but it is very cumbersome to empty into a leaf bag. I opted for the old fashioned method of raking by hand. That aside, I love this mower and can settle with using it without the bagger.
