Built right!
Solid mower with plenty of power. I like how I sit high and it rides smooth.
Cuts my yard very even and looks great when finished.
The big reason for this mower was the drive shaft!

outstanding garden tractor
i have purchased two xt3 garden tractors; one for personal use and one for use at my church. i have had a gsx since 2015 and a gs since May of this year. both have 48 inch prefab decks. the gs has a mulching kit installed for finer mowing at my church. the photo shows the gs hauling a trailer with about 400-500 pounds of cut timer in it. the loaded trailer had to be pulled up a steep hill near a pond and the tractor did the job. love use of a drive shaft from engine to transmission and the use of a cast iron transmission. the gsx and its deck has been used to maintain some very rough trails on my 35 acres. sometimes i get is stuck but it never as been stuck for long.

Really nice Cub
This is my second review as the previous one posted never showed up on the web site. I have owned a shaft drive Cub Cadet 2166 for 16+ years so when I wanted to upgrade to a heavier duty unit back in May of this year the XT3GS was a no brainer. I like the simplicity
of manual steering and manual deck lift and was surprised at the tight turning radius which has actually reduced my trimming time. The steering was really stiff at first but now at 32 hrs. it has loosened up so the decision not to go with the GSX with eps turned out to be a good one so far. I opted for another 42" deck due to the exceptional cut and ease of servicing experienced with my old Cub. It's hard to tell there is even a deck under the XT3 with the power of the 22.5 hp Kohler engine. I mow a little over 2 acres and the increased speed and power of the XT3 has reduced my mowing time by almost half; couple that with the tighter turning radius it now takes just a little over 2 hrs. to finish, whereas my old Cub took 3 - 4 hours.
Another reviewer stated that greasing the steering box was almost impossible and disassembly was required but I have found this not to be exactly true. While not as easy to access as on my old Cub I've found using a flexible hose on my grease gun makes greasing the unit much easier. I agree Cub could have made accessing the steering box zerks easier but with a little patience it's not too terribly bad. The other grease fittings on the tractor are easily accessible.
One major drawback of the XT3 is the all but useless always on headlights and cheesy head light assembly. In my honest opinion the non controllable dim headlights do not do the quality of the rest of the tractor justice so only a 4 star rating. Here in the deep south with high temps and humidity a lot of my mowing is performed late evening into dark and the headlights are simply worthless. I may talk to my dealer about installing an LED light bar on it.
If you are unsure of the XT3 capabilities don't fret it because it is more than capable of handling a small garden with the available optional hitch and ground engaging implements.

Lawn and snow - buy this, not GSX
I bought this 4 months ago. So far so good. I have a 3 acre lawn with a lot of hills. This mows it really well. I don’t love the sensation as I ride along the hills as you sit up fairly high, but I’m getting better at taking the right angles. It tends to scalp the lawn as I crest the steepest parts of the hills, so you’ll have to work through that too. It cuts beautifully though and is built like a tank. I mowed an acre of overgrown meadow as well. A few rocks really mangled the blades, but the mower held up and took out the meadow. Blades have been sharpened and are as good as new.
I also bought the plow attachment and just used it to clear my driveway (probably 50 yards long). It works great. The plow is also heavy duty and I made quick work of it. Life changing if you’re used to a walk-behind snow blower. What took me almost 45 minutes with a snow blower took me less than 10 with the plow. Add tire weights and chains and it’s unstoppable.
For what it’s worth, I got the fold-up cart and don’t love it. I like that it can collapse for storage, but the way the back gate folds straight down doesn’t allow you to dump when it’s open. It gets frustrating. Also, my first heavy load of rocks bent the yoke pretty badly and I had to spend time hammering it straight again. I wish I would have gotten a steel cart.
Long story short, buy this model tractor. You don’t need the extra electronics with the electric lift on the GSX, don’t be lazy. It’s not hard to raise and lower a deck, and the electric stuff is just something that will eventually break and cost you a lot of money to replace because you probably don’t know how to do that kind of work yourself. Also, you don’t really need rear diff lock. You think you might, but you don’t. You’re not taking it off-roading with your Jeep bro’s. You’re plowing the driveway and mowing the lawn. Chains and weights work great.

I like this Cub
Purchased mine in June of '18. I didn't inspect it thoroughly when it arrived. The super heavy deck wasn't totally attached. One deck support pin was was not actually attached. My 74 yr young Mom assisted with the install. (Not a huge deal, per se)
The deck weighs quite a bit but being a 54" FAB it has presence.
I am very pleased with the "auto-like" steering. I do need to grease all joints pronto!
I recently had to replace my PTO belt. I have two suggestions for the op manual:
(1) Remove the left belt cover before attempting the replacement....it just got in the way.
(2) Before you insert the 1/2" drive ratchet you need to position your body such that you create enough forward lean to achieve the two actions you are about to undertake. With the belt in your left grasp push with great effort with your right hand/body lean to be able to inch the belt with your left hand around the deck drive pulley. After you achieve the desired outcome, i.e. the belt is on the pulley, correctly, then you can ease the wrench into the relaxed position.
Overall, I like my Cub but as I age down the road the above task will probably require the experts.

Piece of junk
I have had mine a month, absolute junk, chokes off with not even real heavy grass. Deck won’t stay adjusted scalps out my lawn, they need a try it and we will take it back if you aren’t satisfied because I sure would give it back.

Ok. Nothing special for a high price lawn tractor
I brought this about two months ago. Ok for a low price GARDEN tractor. It does the job. The grease fittings on the steering column is next to impossible to get to unless you disassembly the unit. Very poor design. I would not recommend. Spend a few hundred dollars more for a different brand of an actual GARDEN tractor instead of a high price LAWN tractor.
