A lawn mower that won’t start can be frustrating. Here are some tips to troubleshoot the issue on your Cub Cadet® riding lawn mower.
Why won’t my lawn mower start?
Reasons for startup failures on Cub Cadet® riding lawn mowers include:
- Engaged blades
- A disengaged parking brake
- Fuel-related issues
- Improper engine operation
- Air filter issues
- Spark plug issues
How do I troubleshoot my lawn mower?
If your Cub Cadet® riding lawn mower won’t start, perform these steps in order. Attempt to start your lawn mower after each one and only proceed to the next if the issue persists. Remember, if you need to replace any parts, use Genuine Factory Parts designed specifically for your Cub Cadet® model.
- Turn off the mower blades, or PTO shaft, set the brake, and try starting it again. The parking brake must be fully engaged when starting.
- Check the fuel level and make sure you’re using fresh fuel if the tank is low. Also check the fuel filter, as it could be blocked.
- If your mower has a choke, make sure the engine is choked. If it does not start, check the oil level. If it is low or empty, it could be a sign of internal engine damage. If this is the case, contact an authorized service center.
- Check the air filter and replace if it is dirty.
- Finally, check the spark plug and replaced if it’s fouled or damaged.
