Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fabulous - although a bit pricey Cub cadet review Very impressive - wish it was lower price So I’m a bit of a cub cadet fan boy - prior to Prior to buying the 42e I had a XT1 46” gas lawn tractor (I still have). While near religious in performing maintenance, I’m not precious about going light on equipment - the gas tractor went through a couple of belts, replacement spindles and home repairs to the exhaust muffler over a 4 year period. I mention this as after finally bending the deck on the gas tractor this summer, some folks may have changed brands. However, the repairs were largely my fault and I still think Cub Cadet represents great value and looks. I came to realize that if I was to replace my lawn tractor, why not go for a newer platform that reduced the complexity of drivetrain and virtually removed the time of maintenance - hence the move to electric. I’ve now had the 42e for 4 months and am very happy with my purchase - I’ve got a little over 1.5 acres and the battery just covers the complete area. The cut is uniform, the ride is smooth and operation is quiet. In direct comparison, my 46” gas tractor needed ear defenders whereas the 42e doesn’t. The party trick of just stopping the blades and still being able to maneuver near silently across the yard doesn’t wear thin. The only downside so far is that the tractor appears lighter over the front axle than the gas equivalent and hence can be a little bouncier if you do hit a bump. Early adopters will always pay for the price of new technology and I’m sure the purchase price will come down once the technology is more common place - although steep, I don’t begrudge the amount I paid for what is essentially a fancy 42” ride on tractor. I’m now wondering if I’ll be able to get performance improvements as software releases like a Tesla ;)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Happy Customer! I purchased this electric riding mower the first month it was released. The main thing that interested me in the cub cadet over other electric riding mowers was the Li Ion battery pack. I knew this would mean a virtually maintenance free mower, which is exactly what I wanted. I mowed several acres at a time with this machine all summer and it did exceptionally well. It is plenty powerful, plenty fast, and is well made. Even did well on steep hillsides. The battery has plenty of power for mowing my entire property with plenty of power left over.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from First Lithium Ion powered lawn tractor. I purchased this mower in Aug'19. This mower matches it gas powered stablemates in the quality of cut. It is noisier than expected and still requires ear protection when mowing. It costs about 50 cent to charge the battery from near empty in my area. I can cut and sweep my almost acre yard easily on a half of charge. (my terrain is flat). The manual is well written and very easy to understand. The tractor handles very well but it is a bit clunky at low speeds. Besides the usual sharpening of the mower blades there is very little maintenance. (no oil changes, belts, or filters to replace).

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Died after 1 hour I used it for an hour according to the display on the mower, parked it, charged it and then when I went to use it next display said 'electrical fault' and I could start it. Took it to the nearest cub cadet service center and left it with them. They called me back and said they aren't willing to repair electric lawn tractors and asked me to pick it up. Wish they could have mentioned that when I called them, or when I dropped it off. Seems to be no repair documentation available as for all I know it could be as simple as replacing a fuse or resetting a module. I think Cub Cadet need to provide much better documentation to help users solve some of these issues themselves as well as train up service centers so they aren't scared too touch these new machines. While it worked it was great, really liked it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Convenience and Power I bought this tractor last year after my trusty wheel horse ran into some electrical issues. I have already upgraded all my other garden equipment to battery and was thrilled to see the LT42e has a good look like a real garden tractor. Even though electric motors produce torque immediately, I was very concerned about the power of the tractor because I use it to pull a cart of wet leaves, drag smallish logs/branches etc. Also, my yard is terraced with steep short inclines in areas. I was really concerned LT42e would not be able to get up them without running out of juice. However, my concerns quickly diminished. This tractor has plenty of power to get up my hills even with a wet a cart of heavy leaves. I bought the mulching blades and they cut well in high grass. I have the fast attach double bagger and used it to pick up the leaves in the fall. It worked great for my needs! The tractor is quite fast at maximum speed and has tons of torque. It turns on a dime compared to my wheel horse. It is fun to use and very convenient. Pricey too, but I do not regret the purchase. I am somewhat concerned about the battery longevity but the fact that it is lithium ion finalized my decision to buy as I have had great longevity with this type of battery with my power tools. The model has typical tractor ride. Ive seen people complain about a harsh ride but their tires are probably overinflated, reduce the tire pressure and it will ride gentler. It is quiet with the mower blades disengaged but with the blades engaged it is not what I would consider quiet, but not too loud either. Think of 2 industrial fans spinning at high speed. In summary, this tractor is awesome, and my hat is off to Cub Cadet for making it happen.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not impressed I bought this mower about 2 weeks ago from an authorized dealer who assured me they knew how to repair if necessary. They delivered it and I drove it 20 feet into my garage to fully charge. After charging to 100%, I got an "Electrical Fault" error on the display and the mower would not run at all(it has .20 total hours on it). The dealer picked it up 10 days ago and they said had to order a diagnostic tool to determine what the problem is. Now they say they are waiting for a part. Disappointed in both the mower and dealer support right now.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good so far My first lawn tractor and tough 2 acre meadow grass. Only used about 20 hours so far, starts and runs flawlessly. Thankfully mows down 8 inch dry grass and taller heavy weeds. Easy to drop mower deck to clean and sharpen blades. I don’t bag. I pull a wagon and fertilizer spreader, no problems. Wish the suspension were better as jolting over molehills everywhere on property. I figure it’s really designed for lawns not farm land but it works for me. Really nice not having noise, smell, maintenance of internal combustion. Time will tell if dependable on rough land but seems to work well if you take it slow. The charging input connector plug could be better designed, but it works, just make sure it’s fully seated.
