Rated 1 out of 5 by from Wanted to like it, but not ready for primetime. Bought this in June of 2018, from day one had nothing but problems. 1st e-clip wasn’t installed on the steering wheel and the vertical steering shaft movement broke the steering wheel. 2nd, starting getting low voltage errors errors and randomly the blade would shut off. 3rd, steering sensor went our and the mower wouldn’t move, had to tow it back to the garage which was the final straw. Ended up returning to dealer for the gas model. I really like the idea of this mower and when it did run it was great, but it is way too unreliable at this point.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this machine Bought this mower this month after researching other electric rider and gas riders. We also have Greenworks blower and Ego push mower as well as Ego weed eater - all outstanding and powerful products. (Full disclosure, I can't wait for Infiniti qx80 to come out in all electric model!). I have never owned a riding mower but have been paying someone to mow our 4.5 acre backyard. I am very non mechanical but wanted to expand my horizons and try a rider. Well, I am thrilled with this mower. It is very easy to operate, cuts effectively, rides smooth, and just a lot of fun. I want to get it out of the garage every day and take it for a spin and cut some grass!! This weekend I bought a pull behind cart and it pulls it effortlessly (I got the idea from a reviewer). Next I am going to buy a pull behind spreader to spread rye seed this Fall. I should add that I asked the dealer to attach a little hitch that comes on other gas Cadet riders. The electric is plenty powerful enough to pull it. It runs a strong 2 to 2 1/2 hours on full bore mowing g. The field has some longer grass and tough weeds but it handled them with no issue. Overall, one of my great purchases last couple years and I highly recommend this 42" RZTS zero electric. ( Oh, it also has cruise control and a tight ZERO turn with a steering wheel!)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceeded all expectations We purchased this one year ago when we decided to tackle our 3/4 acre lot on our own going forward and stop paying a service. We looked at a lot of mowers and after running into an article about electric lawn mowers in Mother Earth News I started doing some digging. After quite a bit of research we decided on this one and have not looked back. There are so many things to like about it there is not room to list them all. It is so quiet! Even when the blades are on it is tolerable without any kind of ear protection. There is almost no maintenance. Grease the wheels and sharpen the blades and you are done. I love getting the service reminders from my local dealer and looking at the list of things they want to do and laughing because none of them apply to this mower. It can easily mow our lot twice on one charge although now that I have the wagon I have been using it for all kinds of projects around the place so I usually charge it one night per week and it is set for another seven days worth of hard labor. The only drawback is the aluminum blades. My wife was too close to the drainage ditch and hit a rock about the size of a brick and it twisted it into a pretzel. Other than that it is complaint free and I cannot recommend it highly enough. You need this if you at all considering buying a riding mower!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best mower I have used this mower for three seasons now and it is the best mower I have ever owned. It's very quiet: I forget my hearing protector sometimes and it really isn't necessary. It cuts very evenly. The batteries gave me about two and a half hours of mowing time per charge the first season. That dropped to about 90 minutes the second season and about 45 minutes the third season. I was disappointed with the drop off but I did use the mower far more than it was designed for. They recommend it for about 3/4 of an acre and I was mowing probably three times that, so perhaps the batteries would last longer under those conditions. I will order new batteries for next season.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Tough mower BUT... This is my third season using the zero, first let me say I love the low maintenance, and this thing (when working) can go with the best of them. I actually used mine to clear brush (4ft) very slowly with multiple passes. My issue has been maintenance when something goes wrong. My something was mice, in my first year mice found its way in the mower and nested on the wires. I live in NE so mice are the norm. I have since mouse proofed the shed. The first repair was fine, cleaning and wire replacement, however the battery would not maintain a charge, it would charge all week and nothing. So I took it back in, this is a pain because my closest dealer is two states away! This time they said the batteries were bad and changed them. So I get it home and yes the batteries charge but they die in about 30-40 mins, I have a little less than an acre and when this thing was brand new I could cut my lawn 2 times on one charge, now I can't even cut half my lawn. So I now have to drive back to Mass/Rhode to have it looked at again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 20 cents to mow my yard! Well as my first summer with an electric mower comes to a close, here is my update. I'm starting to love this mower. Especially using it with wagon in tow, as a utility unit. Hop on it zip over there, five minutes later zip to the other side of the yard. Zero issues with mowing my grass, has only shut off one time in thick clover. Just turn on the turbo boost and take your time and it will cut through some thick grass. It's taking slightly less than 2 KWH of electricity to recharge after mowing 3/4 acres. 2 KWH comes to 20 cent for me, now that's low cost. As I drive an 100% electric car, I know electricity leaves gasoline way behind. An internal combustion engine (ICE), is less than 30% efficient. 70% of the energy in a gallon of gas is wasted as heat. Whereas an electric motor is over 90%, that's why I can cut my gas for $0.20

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does whats needed I've been pushing an electric mower for 8 years now (3 different brands over that time), and recently ended up with more to mow than I have time to push. This is my first riding mower. The RTZ Zero does what its advertised to do, mow a lawn for an hour (I am getting closer to 2). I've used it to mow some taller stuff, and it can be made to do it, but its best kept to a regularly mowed lawn. I did get the hitch and the mulching kit when I purchased the mower. While it is a great product, there is room for improvement. Regulations and safety conscience needs to back off. I can understand disabling movement and the blades while no operator is on the seat, but shutting down each time is an extra hassle. The charger, while built well and using modern energy-star processes, is actually a heavy old-fashioned low efficiency model, probably kept the initial cost down, but will add up for the customer over time. Both traction and blade motors stall a bit too easily. Being used to electric push mowers that never stall no matter what, just a little bit of thick clover might cause the blades on the RTZ-Zero to shut off. I personally think its just too sensitive, probably in an effort to keep reliability up. However, I only stall the blades if I scrape bottom or am trying to tackle some un-mowed area, though the mulching kit isn't much use because of this. Mulching take significant more power and that trips the stall even easier. The same happens with traction, but in that case, you have to let off the accelerator and press down again to get it going again. This was probably again to keep reliability up by not overexerting the motors and especially the batteries, but I think they need to reevaluate the system. And if you mow during the heat of the hotter days, you may experience a hub-motor temperature warning, specially while trying to mulch using blade boost. I might recommend skipping the mulching kit unless you have a small area and mow very regularly. The regularly blades do a wonderful job normally. The battery gauge might tend to be misleading in how much capacity is left, but that is common with most lead-acid battery products. The bottom bars tend to disappear much faster than the top ones. It might be nice if it would have electric braking while the rider is engaged. I at least find it hard to operate both brake and accelerator pedals on tricky terrain (to back out of a dead-end on an incline), but likely a ICE rider would be even trickier. So those are my downsides, all things I think we'll see get better over time if Cub Cadet stays in the electric rider market. The space I mow has never looked better, though, and I complete the area in a fraction of the time of pushing, so this rider has been a very good purchase.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Like it very much I chose an electric mower to replace the 16 HP gas mower, because it is so simple and much less maintenance. Full disclosure I own and drive a 100% electric car, not one drop of gas or oil. I fully understand all the positives electric propulsion offers and also the few negatives. I have 26 solar panels that provide 80% of my usage. And this is my first zero turn mower. I’ll start by saying this mower is not a bush hog, so if that’s what you are looking for you will not be pleased. I rate my purchases based on do they meet my needs. So does this mower meet my needs? So far the answer is a, two thumbs up yes. Great points: Quiet. No ear plugs needed, drop my phone in my shirt pocket and listen to music as I mow. Zero turn is great, but this is available on (ICE) internal combustion engine mowers also. Seat is comfortable. I like the storage compartments around and behind the seat. Super great for zipping around the yard with small wagon in tow. Yes I had to purchase a hitch attachment. Nice not to have to crank a gas engine to move 100 feet. Many of the great things about an electric vehicle/mower is things it does not have. No heat from the engine. No exhaust. No oil leaking on the driveway. No gas and the fumes you breathe filling up the gas can then filling the mower. No gas spills trying to fill the mower. No lugging around 5 gallon gas cans at 40 pounds. No trips to the gas station to purchase gas. No belts. No pulleys. No air filter. No oil filter. No gas filter. No gas treatment for over winter storage. Mowing points: Reasonable power, I weigh 240 pounds and it moves me and cuts going up a slight grade just fine. In taller grass you can engage the blade boost, which will give you more blade speed but less cutting time. I mow ¾ acre with no problem. Ride is rougher than my big 16 HP mower. Cruise control would be great for long straight runs, which I don’t have. Area’s for improvement: Cost, too much should be in line with ICE model. Suspension, smoothness of ride. As the batteries and driver are in the back, the mower is light in the front and more prone to losing traction with the ground. I wish I did not have to re-start every time I get off. I do not like how the blades shut off if you back-up. There is a simple process to override this, but it must be done every time you start mowing or get off and re-start mowing. Charger is heavy, for me setting it on the floor is not an option. Sometimes there is a pause in acceleration, seems to happen more if the mower is cold or cool. In summary: It takes a little time to become accustom to the starting process. Push in brake, switch key on, wait a few seconds push the red start button. I have took to setting the park brake when I get off, which reduces the steps to turning on the key wait a few seconds, then pressing the red start button. I like this mower very much, and have no buyer remorse. From this point on, how well the mower holds up, especially the batteries will determine my overall experience.
