Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding Mower and Used it for 1 Year Our older mower died and replaced it with XT1, 42-Inch mower and couldn't be any happier after using it consecutively for a little over a year. Upgraded and placed the front bumper on it (19A300200EM - I did get the yellow one) and also picked up the mulching blades too (19A70041100). Club Cadet is very quick and has a decent turn radius too. What sold me on this unit is the simplified belt configuration and the added rollers on front and aft of the deck. The best part of the mower is the ability to place it in reverse with the blades going which saves time. Changed the oil during the first break-in period and was extremely easy. Some inferior make and model mowers don't have oil filters and question the preventive maintenance on those machines. Highly recommend this machine and it will cut your mowing time in half because of the speed. You will not be disappointed. Still wash the entire mower and place it back in the shed. Superior mower as compared with the competition and the most bang for your dollar. Picked up the extended warranty from Home Depot but more than likely, wasted my money. Thanks for looking at this review and good luck shopping for a mower and please heavily consider this dynamite work horse, you will not be dissapointed!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Deck spindle bearing froze! I bought this as the seventh lawn tractor, and expected it to last. It's just over three years old. The engine blew on my last one! The tractor is fine, but the bearing on the deck spindle of the mowing deck - completely fused and failed yesterday while cutting the lawn. I'm 75 years old, and have had at least six lawn tractors over the years of different brands. This is my first Cub Cadet. I wrote them and am waiting to see if the company will quickly send me a new deck spindle fee of charge, as my grass needs cut NOW! I've never had a deck on any of the others where a bearing failed?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would recommend to anyone! This lawn tractor is excellent! With my old mower having one foot in the grave, I figured it was time to bite the bullet and buy a new one. I am very glad I picked the Cub Cadet XT1 L42, as this mower has cut my mowing time! I am also impressed with the short turning radius and how my yard looked like a golf course after my first use! If you are looking at similar mowers, stop wasting your time and go buy a Cub Cadet! You wont regret it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid Tractor I purchased my XT1 LT42 the spring of 2018 so I've had it for a little over a year now. I've done a fair bit in upgrades to this tractor as I've added the XT2 wheels with ball bearings to the front, wired in a set of rear taillights for nighttime operations, installed the Cub Connect Bluetooth module (more on this below) and added the front bumper kit. In hindsight, I likely should have just pulled the trigger on an XT2 model out of the gate but I'm happy with the tractor in its current state and have no plans to upgrade anytime soon. This tractor is used primarily for maintaining my primary residential property. I live on an acre property in the woods so this tractor is used to mow grass (I primarily bag but more on that below), towing the Cub Cadet Hauler cart for moving stone, mulch, firewood, etc. I also use the tractor for towing a plug aerator, lawn roller and spreader. At this point, I've got a little over 100 hours on the tractor. I'm fanatical about maintaining my equipment and keeping it clean and in good working order. I stick pretty close to the manufacturer's maintenance schedule, hence the reason I installed the Cub Connect Bluetooth module into the tractor (more on that below.) I perform maintenance on all of my power equipment vehicles, etc. so I wanted a tractor that was easy to work on and easy to get parts for. Maintenance-wise, my XT1 couldn't be easier to procure parts for and wrench on. The Kohler 5400 series engine is a simple, naturally aspirated bucket engine design that has given me no problems. I did just pull the carburetor apart and give it a good cleaning and replaced the needle valve and gaskets but that's just regular routine maintenance that probably could have waited for another 100 hours or so. Regardless, the engine performs well and besides replacing the oil and cleaning the air filter regularly, requires little no effort to keep running. One thing I really appreciate about my XT1 is the convenient placement of the grease zerks on the tractor. I make an effort to keep fresh grease in all the areas where zerks are available. I do dock Cub Cadet a few points for not including serviceable bearings and grease zerks in their deck spindles on this mower but that's really no different for any other manufacturer's riding mower in this price range. I did rectify this problem but installing serviceable bearings in my spindles and adding grease zerks. The XT1 uses a Tuff Torque K46 hydro-static transmission, which is one of the most popular transmissions used in residential-grade riding mowers across the board. Arguably, this transmission is the weakest link in this tractor but again, you'd have to jump up in price considerably (across every manufacturer) to move to a commercial-grade tractor that had a beefier transmission. These transmissions are labeled as "Non-Serviceable" but the one thing I did right off the bat with my tractor was to drop the transmission and drain the stock transmission oil, which is pretty lousy quality. I replaced the oil with a good quality 5w-50 synthetic, on the advice of Tuff Torque, which definitely changed the responsiveness of the transmission out of the gate. Cub Cadet would be wise to work with Tuff Torque to get them to use a higher quality oil out of the gate in an effort to increase the transmission's longevity. Incidentally, Cub Cadet should work with Tuff Torque on a K46-variant that is serviceable (e.g. has a drain plug/fill plug so you don't need to drop the transmission to change the oil.) The stock front wheels on the stock XT1 use a plastic bushing and are likely fine for most consumer's use; however, I chose to upgrade mine to the same wheels that are used on the XT2. I also installed a set of serviceable wheel bearings and grease zerks into the wheels (again, I likely should have just purchased the XT2 out of the gate but you live and learn.) The cutting deck on this mower has its pros and cons. First, having guide wheels on the front and the back on a residential grade mower at this price point is a nice surprise! Definitely helps with prevent scalping! Secondly, getting this deck off/on the mower is a cinch and I appreciate how quickly it can be done. Makes servicing the deck and replacing the blades an easy task. This deck is ideally suited for side-discharge or bagging, the latter of which I mainly choose as it gives a very clean looking cut and nice stripes. Where this deck falls short is in mulching. I purchased the OEM Cub Cadet mulching kit that came with 2 mulching blades and the mulching cover. Even with the OEM mulching kit, sharp blades and a clean deck, this mower does not mulch well, even with short grass. Even with the deck perfectly level, the cut is uneven and the dryest of grass will still clump. I have many trees on my property so I do find benefit in using the mulch kit in fall for leaf cleanup but for most of the mowing season, I stick with bagging. Additionally, the mulch cover for this kit feels like an afterthought. The cover doesn't secure very well to the deck and as such, Cub Cadet has started including this support bar that fastens over the cover to help secure it to the deck but this still does little to keep the cover secured and to prevent the buildup of grass clippings between the bottom of the cover and the deck. The overall construction of this tractor is solid! It's a simple design but it's built well and feels beefier than any other residential-grade lawn tractors offered from competing manufacturers in this price range. Looking at the front steering system on this tractor tells you everything you need to know about its design and toughness. This tractor has one of the best designed steering systems I've ever had on a residential-grade lawn tractor. The only real complaint I have about this lawn tractor is the Cub Connect system. I didn't purchase this tractor solely for the Cub Connect functionality, which I installed after purchase, it was certainly an attractive feature that I wanted to make use of. Unfortunately, Cub Cadet seems to have abandoned development of their Cub Connect Android app and the app in its current form is a bug-ridden mess and is basically useless. I've reached out to Cub Cadet's mobile app development team multiple times but there's been no response. It's a shame because they advertise this feature but then fail to support/enhance it. I'm a software engineer/computer engineer by trade and have considered attempting to build my own version of the app but who has the time for that? Anyhow, minus the one grievance with the Cub Connect app/feature, I'm really happy with my XT1. Yes, in hindsight, considering my use case for this tractor, I likely should have just purchased an XT2 out of the gate but all things considered, this really is a great tractor. I like that it's well-built but is still simple enough to work on and that parts for it don't break the bank. If the transmission holds in there, I imagine I'll get many years of use out of my XT1.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 2nd Cub Cadet for me! I've only got 12 hours on my new XT1, but I love it as much as I did my first one for 21 years. Cub did an excellent job choosing the Kohler engine for this one too. More than adequate even towing carts and other equipment. Turn radius is excellent, controls are well-placed and efficient. I was not sure at first how I'd like the pedal control, but after one pass around my front yard I was good with it; now I'm spoiled. The results when I'm done mowing are simply awesome. I look forward to another 20 plus years of good service!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fabulous machine Recently I was in much need of a new riding mower... I did some comparisons, the seat, compartments, engine , engine cover, CUP HOLDER, and a few others... I find the adjustable seat comfortable, LOVE< LOVE the compartments for car keys ~ phone~ etc..... Awesome cup holder ( I really wanted one of these :) )... I love the convenience of an automatic transmission (no more shifting) hehehe.... The engine cover is very sturdy.... The last one had cracked very easily (not a cub) and also faded horribly.. I really enjoy the fact that I no longer need to lift the engine cover to add gas also.. The cut I receive is nice and even.. The turning radius is fabulous~! No more WIDE turns....No more back tracking ~!~! Engine cranks right up without hesitation.. I guess I can really say my bumble~bee purrs.. :) The deck is very easy to clean especially with the convenient , included, attachment for the hose...I love the warranty she has too~! Without a doubt , I am one happy customer.. My Papa purchased one about 3 years ago and has never had one minute of trouble from his either... Thanks Cub Cadet...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from XT1-LT42 This is my 3rd, Cub, and it I think it the best one I have purchased. I do have one small issue. The throttle lever is mounted too low on the dash. I continually bump my knee against it. Maybe a taller person with the seat back won't have this issue. I think they should just relocate it higher up. It cuts great and runs fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love the hydrostatic drive. Not having to stop and shift gears is great. And the push button to stay in reverse while mower is running works perfect. I recommend this lawn tractor 100%.
